this is the reconstruction as a 3d model of a neo-classical villa situated near the city of frankfurt, in germany. as a commercial visualization, the scope of the image is to present the existing building as it will look after an architectural restauration.
the modeling job in form-z took longer than usual, as the supplied plans had not enough details about the building for a photo-real reconstruction. so i took reference shots on site and modeled everything using the photos as references. the final model was then exported to the lightwave lwo format. then, the scene to be rendered was setup in lightwave. the camera was matched to a reference photo and the complete scene was rendered with the kray render plugin in photon mapping, final gather, GI mode at 4k pixel resolution. render time was about 1 h on an 8 core macpro. compositing and post work in photoshop was straight forward, but i had to 'clean up' the backplate quite a bit from unwanted visual distractions.
specs: hardware: macpro 8 core 'nehalem' - software: formz 6.7, lightwave 9.6.1 64 bit with kray 2.1, photoshop CS5, all on mac osx.
